For 22 years the Blue Stem Truckers Chapel has ministered to truckers and travelers at the TA Travel Center at Beto Junction on Interstate 35 in Kansas.
Flint Hills Baptist Association is the sponsor.
Beto Junction is located at the junction of I-35 and U.S. Highway 75. It is centrally located between Burlington, Emporia, Topeka and Ottawa and draws its name from the first letters of those communities.
Lonnie Davis took over the ministry in March 2020 after long-time director Bruce Johnson had to step down. He is assisted by his wife, Cindy, their family and other volunteers.
On a recent Sunday Blue Stem Truckers Chapel and the TA Travel Center sponsored a Truckers Appreciation Day.
Professional drivers had the opportunity to enjoy games, such as ladder ball, corn-hole toss and ax throwing, plus free food. The TA Travel Center provided hamburgers and hot dogs along with breakfast burritos from Wendy’s.
Ninety-two gift bags with gospel tracts were distributed.
“That’s 92 tracts that we pray at least one person will be saved through all this,” Lonnie Davis said.
