Southeast Kansas Baptist Association and its ministry partners led the 28th annual outreach in inner-city Fort Worth, Texas, in January and February.

This year saw a change as the association sent two teams. First Baptist Church, Joplin, Mo., sent a separate team as it has for several years.

The teams work with the Beautiful Feet homeless ministry just east of downtown Fort Worth. Ministry focuses on construction, street outreach, clothing, children’s ministry and food ministry, both to feed the teams and the homeless.

Amy Gideon from First Baptist Church, Cherokee, Kan., led the children’s ministry for the team that served Jan. 17-19. Here is part of her report:

“Once everyone was tired and worn out, it was time to wrap things up by getting the children on the bus and so they could go home and share what they learned with their families.

“For me, my heart will forever be changed by this one afternoon on that bus as the kids were being taken home. On the way I sat with a young man and we began to talk about the things he enjoyed and learned during the afternoon.

“As we talked, this young man was desperate for more answers on how to be saved. He said he was scared and thought being saved was too hard to do, and he began to sob.

“I knew God placed me right where I was needed on that bus. God gave me the words to say and He gave that young man the courage to ask for salvation right there on the bus.

“When I was finished praying, he looked at me and told me he wanted to be saved so he could live right. He feared that someday he would end up in prison like his father.

“This day will be one that I will hold close to my heart for a lifetime.”

Plans are already being made for the 2021 Beautiful Feet outreach. Dates for Southeast Kansas Baptist Association teams are:

  • Jan. 22-24, 2021
  • Feb. 12-14, 2021
