The lawn at Blue Valley Baptist Church, Overland Park, Kan., resembled a carnival on Saturday, July 30.

The occasion was a party for younger children to celebrate the end of the summer reading club at both Blue Valley campuses in Overland Park and nearby Olathe. “Saddle Up and Read” was the theme.

A total of 157 children participated in the annual summer reading club. They checked out 3,593 books and other media items.

After setup for the event was completed, Fay Hudnall called the volunteers together for prayer. She is church library director at the Blue Valley campus in Overland Park.

“We have several families coming that do not attend church at all,” Hudnall told the group.

Along with the summer reading club, Story Time was held on four Tuesdays at the Blue Valley campus in Overland Park.

“We read only Bible stories” during Story Time, Hudnall said. “Parents want their kids to hear Bible stories.”

The volunteers at the party on Saturday, July 30, were elated to hear that a grandmother accepted Christ during Story Time.

“What a privilege to know these children and their parents!” Hudnall said.

“We have a celebration party at the end of each book club to celebrate the children who read the required number of books. However, the best reason to celebrate is that God has touched many children’s hearts through Bible stories and Christian books!”
